Bernal Thalman Cordero
Professor (Retired) & Independent Researcher

Bernal Thalman Cordero is an engineer, researcher, and innovator with over four decades of experience in electronic systems design, industrial automation, and telecommunications. He served as a Professor in the Electronics Laboratory at the School of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Costa Rica, where he also supervised master's thesis projects.

In the public sector, he was Head of the Electronics Laboratory at the Costa Rica Telecommunications Institute (Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad – ICE).

He is a co-founder of Cibertec Corp., a private enterprise dedicated to the development of advanced electronic circuits for telecommunications. The company produced universal signaling units and bidirectional real-time converters for R2 and C5 signaling systems used in telephone links worldwide.

As Technical Director of Cibertec S.A., he secured prominent contracts with AT&T, including a landmark project carried out at Bell Laboratories in Chicago, commissioned by Lucent Technologies. In this role, he contributed to the digital conversion of the analog MLT – Metallic Loop Testing module for the 5ESS telephone switchboard, actively participating in key test procedures and validation processes.

His professional experience spans more than 20 countries worldwide. He also contributed to the invention of U.S. Patent No. 4,539,480, a galvanic isolation system utilizing light-based technology.

Throughout his career, he has received multiple honors, including recognition from the College of Engineers of Costa Rica for his outstanding work on the automation project of the Arenal-Corobicí hydroelectric generation system — the largest in the country. Additionally, he was awarded the Clodomiro Picado Award by the National Council for Scientific and Technological Research (CONICIT) in recognition of the best Science and Technology project.

In parallel to his engineering career, Thalman has pursued a deep theoretical interest in the foundations of physics. His work on the Temporal Flow Theory represents a synthesis of his engineering intuition and his commitment to understanding the physical structure of spacetime.

He is the author of Kinematic Interpretation of Radial Free-Fall via the Temporal Metric Gradient, in which he demonstrates that the Newtonian gravitational acceleration can be derived from the spatial gradient of the local temporal progression rate — a result he describes as "the kinematic signature of gravity."
